Hi! My name is Alex. I am a Filipina-American writer, editor, cultural programming director, advisor, and strategist based in Paris, France and New York City, USA. My diverse work is tied together by a core mission of creating accessibility through public service and social impact.
As an undergrad, I dove into cultural studies and applied it directly by leading a student organization that turned out hundreds of live events across four years, bringing thought leaders and activists like Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, and Angela Davis to engage our student body around complex issues. Upon graduation, I was awarded a prestigious Coro Fellowship--the oldest public affairs fellowship in the United States—where I served as an advocacy and communications consultant for leadership teams at the NYC Mayor's Office, Edelman, United Federation of Teachers, and on the campaign trail for pivotal local elections.
After my fellowship, I spent six years working with NGOs, public media, and historic cultural venues. During this time, I applied my creative, political, and strategic skills to build media partnerships and increase audience outreach for the beloved audio pioneer New York Public Radio (home of series like Radiolab and Freakonomics), where I was honored to serve my hometown alongside Emmy- and Peabody-Award winners (and a couple MacArthur Geniuses, too). Ultimately, I became NYPR's first-ever diversity, equity, & inclusion manager, a role in which I worked closely with the executive suite to implement key structural changes across content strategy and internal policy. I also produced dozens of sold-out live events with the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, where I helped scale the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration to one of the top MLK Day events in America.
In 2019, I moved to Europe to pursue my MBA at a top French école de commerce. There, I served as Class President, led crisis response initiatives for our international student body through the rapid onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, and successfully defended my masters thesis--a socioeconomic analysis of the movement to decolonize Western cultural institutions. I now live between Paris and NYC, collaborating with cross-cultural teams that use innovation to bring constructive progress to global communities. Most recently, I wrapped up the project of a lifetime with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games' official hospitality partner, On Location, managing a philanthropic program for the US Olympic & Paralympic Foundation (go, Team USA!).
I hold an MBA from Audencia Business School, a BA from Colby College, and an AA from Bard College. I am also a proud alumna of the Asian American Writers' Workshop and Sackett Street Workshop, have completed graduate coursework with the Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Extension School, and am a member of the Asian American Journalists' Association. In 2017, I was named one of FindSpark.com's "30 Must-Follow Diversity & Inclusion Thought Leaders Transforming the Workplace." In my free time, I love to play tennis, paint, cook, travel, and tend to my small (but mighty!) balcony garden.
